Okapi

The animals were created by God,

Lions, robins, elephants and cod.

Then he took a last piece of clay,

The final animal of the day.

“Floppy ears, brown fur and cream colored face,

Long white legs covered in elaborate black lace.”

God said it and it was so.

Adam named the mice,

The dogs, the turtles and the lice.

Adam did not know what to call this one,

“Its coat is just so much fun.

Zebra maybe or perhaps deer,

Or giraffe with extremely large ears?”

“Oh no,” God lovingly intervened, “Can’t you see?

This one should be an Okapi.”
