Mystery of the Roman Ransom

Mystery of the Roman Ransom by Henry Winterfeld is a fascinating and breath-taking novel.   It is freckled with hilarious phrases and jovial sarcasm.

Set in antediluvian Rome, the seven protagonists -Mucius, Caius, Publius, Julius, Flavius, Rufus and Antonius- start off the story by purchasing a slave for their (so thought) fifty year old teacher, Xantippus.  They soon find out that their new (uncalled for) slave is a clandestine herald.  Peril and panic strike when the boys and their master find out that one of their fathers is going to be murdered.  Then the worst possible incident occurs, one of the boys is taken hostage.  It is then up to the prisoner’s friends to figure out who did it and how to liberate him… or even how to pinpoint him!

This book is crammed to the brim with humorous quests and remarkable exploits.  I truly relished this adventurous sequel to Detectives in Togas, and I am fairly certain that you will too.  If you would like to find out “Whodunit”, read this enrapturing tale of mystery and exuberance!
